PJ HARVEY, on the top of edginess...

Dernière mise à jour : 24 avr. 2024

If you’ve watched Peaky Blinders, you surely have heard at least one of her songs “Is this desire?” was played during one of the key scenes of the show and we can tell that it had everyone Shazaming it...

With her avant-garde naturalist look, sometimes endogenous and classy, sometimes very sexy pin-up-punkette, PJ Harvey was one of the major musicians of the UK’s early 90’s independent rock scene.

Always ahead of her time, her music sounds more like research and experiments. With often introspective lyrics, PJ speaks in no filters creating what she refers to as a “humoristic and horrific” ambience. She is absolutely not afraid to share breakups, disappointments, twisted thoughts, becoming a caricature of her own.

PJ Harvey and her eponimus band released their first album named Dry in 1992. Through the years, her style has evolved a lot. Switching between extremely angry, noisy and distorted to clean, and whispering.

“I’m fascinated with things that might be considered repulsive or embarrassing.”, says PJ Harvey to The Sunday Times on May 1993.

Urban legend says that one of her first gigs started with fifty people in the room and during the first song there were only two people left and an old lady screaming “we’ll pay you but please stop playing”.

What do you want guys ? Avant-gard is not always welcomed. Yet, i think PJ is one of the best inspiration we can have when it comes to rock music. If you're up to digging deeper in the character we've got you the documentary "Reeling With PJ Harvey" released by Maria Mochnacz in 1994 during PJ's European and American Tour.
